Four years after Fairland became a town again, citizens and the town council are starting to see some progress, according to town officials.
Clerk-Treasurer Chris Brinson proposed a 2013 budget, which will be reviewed by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, that is similar to the 2012 budget during Tuesday's council meeting. The proposed budget passed in a 3-0 vote.The 2012 budget was approximately $125,000 with the town earning approximately $35,000 in property tax revenue.Brinson told the council that currently there is $183,300 in the town's account, which includes all funds. Currently, $73,000 of that is for the general fund.The Town of Fairland's annual budget is $39,000, according to Brinson.
"We have tried to keep the budget as low as we can. We have tried to keep taxes low for the citizens. It takes a while to accumulate funds so you can do things," Brinson said.
