From the Indianapolis Star:

Gov.-elect Mike Pence defended his proposed 10-percent income tax cut Thursday to a group of business, government and community leaders.

“I believe with all my heart . . . that we can fund our priorities, and we can put more money in the pockets of taxpayers and Hoosier businesses in ways that will create jobs.”

The Republican Congressman was a keynote speaker at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce Vision 2025 Statewide Summit at the Westin Indianapolis Hotel. His remarks came just a day after key legislative leaders from his same party cast doubt on the fate of his proposed cut.

Pence said he respected the opinions of his colleagues, but thinks Hoosiers deserve to get back money the government doesn’t need to spend. With a $2 billion reserve, Pence said the state can fund priorities and cut taxes.

“I believe that the time has come to cut the taxes for every Hoosier in the city and on the farm and make Indiana the lowest taxed state in the Midwest,” he said.

A clear majority of Hoosier businesses also file an individual income tax, he said, and he thinks the cut will spur job growth.

...

Daniels neither endorsed nor spoke against Pence’s proposed tax cut, saying the state had good choices to make with a healthy reserve.
